ChromeOS 16805.33.0 Stable: update your Chromebook today
On October 9, 2026 Google moved ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex Stable to OS 16805.33.0 (browser 154.0.8037.151) with Critical browser fixes and two High platform fixes. How home Chromebook owners check, restart, and verify.

Updating the Chrome browser on a Windows or Mac PC does not patch a Chromebook. Chromebooks run ChromeOS, and Google ships that OS on its own Stable train. On October 9, 2026, Google moved ChromeOS and ChromeOS Flex Stable to OS version 16805.33.0, with browser build 154.0.8037.151, for most devices.
This is a different story from this week’s desktop Chrome notes (Chrome 155 Stable and Early Stable 156). If your daily machine is a Chromebook or a ChromeOS Flex PC, you need the ChromeOS package, not chrome://version on another computer.
What Google shipped
Google’s Stable Channel Update for ChromeOS / ChromeOS Flex (Friday, October 9, 2026) says the Stable channel is being updated to:
- OS version: 16805.33.0
- Browser version: 154.0.8037.151
- Scope: most ChromeOS devices (and ChromeOS Flex)
The same post lists a long set of Chrome browser security fixes, including these Critical items:
- CVE-2026-95310: use after free in AdFilter
- CVE-2026-95356: use after free in WindowDialog
- CVE-2026-95313: use after free in Fullscreen
- CVE-2026-95339: use after free in ServiceWorker
- CVE-2026-103628: out of bounds write in WebGL
It also calls out two High third-party / platform fixes:
- A mali_kbase use-after-free write that can let GPU-process activity corrupt kernel memory
- A StartArcVm validation issue that can weaken the crosvm sandbox (the boundary behind Android apps on many Chromebooks)
Google’s post does not say these issues are being exploited. You still want the build installed. Critical browser memory bugs plus sandbox-adjacent platform fixes are enough reason to restart today.
Why this is not “I already updated Chrome”
Home readers mix these up all the time:
- Desktop Chrome on Windows, Mac, or Linux is the browser we covered in the Chrome 155.0.8059.39 note and the Chrome 156 Early Stable note.
- ChromeOS is the operating system on the Chromebook itself. Its browser build in this Stable drop is still on the 154.0.8037.151 line.
If someone in the house updates Chrome on a Windows laptop, the Chromebook on the kitchen table does not magically follow. Check the Chromebook.
How to update and verify on your Chromebook
Google’s help page Update your Chromebook’s operating system is the checklist. In plain steps:
- Turn the Chromebook on and connect it to Wi-Fi (plugged into power is better for a big download).
- At the bottom right, open the time area, then open Settings.
- Open About ChromeOS.
- Under Google ChromeOS, read the current version. Then select Check for updates if the button is there.
- Let the download finish. When ChromeOS offers a restart (or you see an Update device notification), Restart so the new OS actually runs.
- After reboot, return to About ChromeOS and confirm you are on 16805.33.0 (browser 154.0.8037.151) or newer on that Stable train.
Downloaded is not enough. The restart is the install. If Settings says you are up to date but the version is still older than 16805.33.0, wait for the staged rollout and check again later the same day. Google rolls Stable over days.
ChromeOS Flex PCs use the same About ChromeOS update path. School or work Chromebooks may show that updates are managed by an administrator. This article is for a personal Chromebook you control.
Do this / don’t do that
Do
- Open About ChromeOS, check for updates, and restart when offered.
- Confirm the OS line shows 16805.33.0 (browser 154.0.8037.151) after reboot.
- Treat Critical browser fixes and High sandbox-adjacent fixes as “restart today,” not “maybe this weekend.”
- If the device is old, also check Additional details → Update schedule so you know when automatic updates end (Google’s update help).
Don’t
- Do not assume a Windows or Mac Chrome update covered the Chromebook.
- Do not leave the “update ready” notification sitting for days without restarting.
- Do not chase every CVE number on the list. Install the OS build and verify the version.
- Do not invent exploit details. Patching is the job.
Bottom line
Google’s October 9, 2026 ChromeOS Stable update moves most devices to OS 16805.33.0 with browser 154.0.8037.151, including five Critical browser fixes and two High platform fixes (official ChromeOS Stable note). On your own Chromebook: Settings → About ChromeOS → Check for updates, restart, then confirm the version. That is the whole job.
