Apple Watch Ultra 4: adventure watch with Health Sensing System, from $799
Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799 with the Health Sensing System, readiness, S11, and up to 50 hours of everyday battery life per Apple. Preorder now for September 18. For outdoor and adventure buyers.

Apple Watch Ultra 4 is the adventure and outdoor watch in Apple’s September 9, 2026 lineup. It shares the new Health Sensing System and readiness story with Series 12, then keeps Ultra’s larger, tougher brief with longer battery claims and titanium builds.
This piece is for people who actually want Ultra, not for every Watch shopper. Most households should start with Apple Watch Series 12. Event dates are summarized in the Surprise and Shine overview.
Official price and ship dates
From Apple’s Ultra 4 Newsroom post:
- Starts at $799 (U.S.)
- Preorder: open with the September 9 announcement in the U.S. and many other countries
- Availability: Friday, September 18
- Cases: natural titanium and black titanium
- Bands: updated Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and translucent Ocean Band colors alongside the launch
That $799 starting price is Apple’s figure. Prefer Apple Newsroom / the Apple Store over secondary posts if you see a conflicting number elsewhere.
What is new for Ultra buyers
Health Sensing System. Apple says Ultra 4 is re-architected for continuous high-fidelity health monitoring with new optical and electrical heart sensors, aiming at the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable. Same generation sensing story as Series 12, on Ultra hardware.
Readiness. A daily score meant to reflect your capacity for the day ahead, useful if you train outdoors and want a simple go/no-go signal beside rings and workouts.
S11 chip. Powers the new sensing features, a live Steps complication, and upcoming Audio Intelligence capabilities Apple says arrive later this year.
Battery (Apple’s claims). For everyday use, Ultra 4 offers more than two days, up to 50 hours. In Low Power Mode, Apple lists up to 84 hours. A 15-minute charge is said to add up to 18 hours. Those are Apple lab-style claims; real life depends on cellular use, GPS workouts, cold weather, and always-on display habits.
watchOS 27. Available Monday, September 14 for eligible watches (Series 9 or later, SE 3, Ultra 2 or later) with a compatible iPhone on iOS 27. Siri AI on watch begins as a beta that day for supported English configurations.
Who should buy Ultra 4
Buy Ultra 4 if you:
- Hike, trail run, dive-adjacent ocean sports, or otherwise want the Ultra chassis and action button workflow
- Care about the multi-day battery envelope Apple is advertising
- Prefer titanium and Ultra band options over a smaller Series watch
- Were already planning to replace an Ultra 2 / Ultra 3 on the normal cycle
Choose Series 12 instead if you:
- Mainly want notifications, fitness rings, sleep tracking, and the new readiness features
- Want to stay near the $399 starting price
- Rarely leave pavement and do not use Ultra-specific tools
Paying double for Ultra only makes sense when you use the rugged product. Health sensing alone is not a reason to upsell yourself.
Setup tips after September 18
- Pair Ultra 4 to an iPhone that already has (or will immediately get) iOS 27.
- Recreate workout shortcuts and Action button habits you rely on outdoors.
- Test GPS on a familiar route before a big trip.
- Learn readiness for a week before changing training plans around it.
- Keep your old Ultra until you confirm cellular (if purchased), bands, and charging behave.
Bottom line
Apple Watch Ultra 4 starts at $799, preorders now, arrives September 18, with Health Sensing System, readiness, S11, and up to 50 hours of everyday battery life per Apple. It is the right Watch if you live in the Ultra niche. Everyone else should buy Series 12 and pocket the difference.
